about

Betamax Heard is a musical gathering and comes from a love of clunky obsolete technology. We are a loosely based, clunky, electronic music collective.

The collective formed as an outlet for like minded artist to come to together and collaborate on some music and tracks. It just seemed a cool way for tracks to come together and be worked on by different artists in an adhoc way. Collectively we have been working together for 4 years now, there's no pressure and personnel can change, so it happens when it happens.

The music we make could really be anything we wanted but has focussed mainly on what would fall into the electro/ techno category. It is also house inspired and draws on the scene that has become known as bass music, which is really an amalgam of all these styles.

The influences are broad and varied and can be influenced by whoever is working within the collective at the time. These can range from, electro, techno, house alongside hip hop, folk, dub, 2 step, 3 step or whatever anyone is listening to at the time. There have been flashes of influences so far in the naming of a few tracks, for instance Larkin after Detroit legend Kenny and the Roland drum machine inspired Row-land.

Old equipment and tape machines and other lesser used mediums like mini disc also play a big part in the feel and concept of the tracks through re-recording and degrading samples.

This LP is a culmination of our works, time and musical influences. Follow The Heard.
